Why Every Homeowner Needs to Keep Their Gutters Clean

Gutter cleaning has historically been one of the most dangerous, disliked, and dirty chores on every homeowner’s to-do list. But it is an essential task that must be done in order to keep your property looking good and protect the value of your house.

You may think gutters are a convenience that stays out of sight, out of mind. But you need to be more proactive than that. Here are just a few reasons it’s so important to keep your gutters clean, as well as the consequences you could have to deal with if you decide not to.

  • Flooding. When heavy rains start to fall, having clean and clear gutters to move the water away from your house is crucial. Without the ability for water to maintain steady flow down and away from the house, you open up the possibility for it to instead seep into your roof and walls, even potentially leading to a flooded basement.

  • Critters. A dirty gutter thick with live and decaying organic material is a paradise for unwanted things to nest and grow. From insects and bees to rodents and trees, all kinds of critters can find a happy home in your disused gutter system. Neither of you will be very happy when it comes time to try to remove them.

  • Rot. Perhaps the most damaging situation that can arise from improperly managed gutters is rotting of your roof, soffits, walls, or foundation. Depending on the severity of the damage this situation can range from an annoying repair to a bonafide financial nightmare.

  • Erosion. With all that water running down the sides of your house instead of being guided away from it, you run the risk of seeing some serious unwanted erosion in your yard and near your foundation. This isn't good for your grass, either.

You may not think about your gutters all that often, but they have important work to do in protecting your home’s functionality and its value. Make sure you’re helping them do their job by keeping them clear of debris.

Our EZsmart Gutter Cleaner aims to make this important task easier and safer than ever. You’ll never have to climb a ladder or spend an entire afternoon digging leaves out of your gutters again.
